ESPERANCE – WOODY ISLAND

5 Day Camping Tour

“Sensational Island Surprise”

DAY 1 Depart school 7.00am. Drive directly to Esperance where on arrival we unpack and settle in for the night.

DAY 2 Morning Cruise of the beautiful Bay of Isles (Recherche Archipelago). See Sea Lions, Seals, Dolphins, Sea Eagles and many more native animals in their natural habitat. Hear the story of the sinking of the “Sanko Harvest” and how an environmental disaster has been converted into a marine reserve and diving site. Put ashore at Woody Island for our overnight stay. Spend remainder of the day swimming, snorkeling, fishing and take a 40 minute bush walk to discover an abundance of wildlife that is on the island (hot water showers, electricity & shop, means you’re not exactly roughing it).

DAY 3 Boat arrives 11.00am to pick us up and take us back to Esperance. After lunch we visit the interesting Municipal Museum which includes a spectacular exhibit on “Skylab” (space wreckage from July 1979, work sheets provided). Next we have a guided tour and explanation of the fascinating Mermaid Leather Factory where they produce and export fashion leathers from discarded fish skins. Back to camp with time for the Beach or Heated Indoor Pool.

DAY 4 Pack up and head for Hyden, with lunch on the way. Set up camp on arrival, with time to explore Wave Rock, Hippo’s Yawn and other interesting geological formations in the area. Last night, campfire and concert.

DAY 5 Early start with our last stop at York. We visit the Motor Museum where we see transport from a bygone era. Lunch in the park by the Avon River and a walk across the Suspension Bridge. On to the coach and we head for Perth arriving back at school at approximately 3.00pm.
