Go West launches Mine Tours

Newmont Presentation2 LRGo West Tours launched daily mine tours of Newmont Boddington Gold on Saturday, which are set to bring thousands of extra visitors to Boddington and the region.
The tours were officially launched at Boddington’s annual Rural Living Expo and was followed by free mine tours, sponsored by Newmont Boddington Gold and Go West.
The tours will be run daily and be targeted at the West Australian tourism market, business and industry groups, university, TAFE, high school and primary school students.
The tours will run from Perth to Boddington and return, undertake a 90 minute tour of processing and mining operations at Newmont followed by lunch and panning for gold in town.
Go West Tours became the successful tour operator after being selected from a tender process, held by Newmont Boddington Gold. The company already runs daily shuttle services between Mandurah and Boddington for mine site employees and supplies buses and drivers for the biannual Vital Behaviours Family Day tours for families of Newmont employees.
Go West Tours General Manager David Haoust said the tours were an exciting opportunity for Boddington.
“The Newmont Boddington Gold Mine operations are one of the biggest in the Southern Hemisphere and these tours will open up the world of mining to everyone in Perth and surrounding areas as well as WA’s key tourism market,” Mr Haoust said.
“The opportunity to see a gold mine is now on people’s doorstep and will be a fantastic day out for young and old, journeying through the picturesque Boddington region, which is just an hour and a half from Perth.”
Newmont Boddington Gold General Manager Darren Hall said the tours were a unique opportunity for people to witness a working gold mine, while showcasing the region to new visitors.
“The tours will be a fascinating insight into how a gold mining operation works and an important contribution to promoting Boddington and the surrounding towns,” Mr Hall said.
“Newmont will be working closely with Go West Tours and the local community to maximise the benefits the tours will bring to the region.”
